Currently, there are two types of electronic visas available to tourists: touristic visa and business visa. The Myanmar tourist visa for US citizens is valid for 90 days from the date of issue, grants a single entry, and travelers can stay up to 28 days at a time. Whereas, business visitors are allowed to stay up to 70 days at a time.
Myanmar Visa Requirements for US Citizens
The Myanmar visa for US passports has been available since 2014, along with passports of 99 other countries. Apart from filling out the online visa application form, the following are the few documents required for submission:
- Passport, valid for at least 6 months after the date of planned entry into Myanmar
- A valid credit or debit card
- Valid email address
- Scanned passport bio page
- At least one empty passport page for visa stamp
- A recent photograph in color, no older than 3 months
Photography specifications must adhere to the following criteria when applying for the eVisa:
- Photo dimensions: 4.8 cm x 3.8 cm
- Clear, full, front view
- White background
- No filters used
- Head should take up 70% of the photo space
- Hats or other headgear must be taken off unless used for religious purposes, in which case, eyes mouth, and nose must be clearly visible
It is also important to include the port of arrival in Myanmar (Burma) as well as the expected date of arrival and departure.
After completing the Myanmar visa requirements for US citizens, travelers can expect a visa response within 3 business days on the email address provided on the application form.
If endorsed on a parent’s passport, children under 7 years old can enter through their parent’s approved eVisa as long as the parent fills in the minor section of the online application form.
How to Apply for a Myanmar Visa in the USA
To apply for the Myanmar visa from the US, applicants must start off by first filling out the online application form, which contains a few basic personal, passport, itinerary, and security questions, such as the following: full name, passport number, passport expiry date, date of birth, nationality, contact number, gender, passport issuing date, hotels, motels among others. Then, travelers must submit the required documents and complete the online visa fee payment through a valid credit or debit card. Applicants are advised to apply at least 4 days before the intended trip.
The Burma visa for US citizens allows visitors to only stay in registered inns, hotels, motels, resorts or guest houses.
A response to the visa application can be expected within 3 business days. . After receiving the approved visa in the provided email account, travelers must print out this email and bring a copy at the point of entry during passport control. Travelers are also advised to keep a copy of the visa throughout their visit Myanmar.
Applications may take longer to process in case of missing required documents or errors made on the online application form.
The Myanmar visa for American citizens allows entrance only through 8 ports of entry, 3 Myanmar airports, 3 Myanmar-Thailand Land Borders, 2 Myanmar-India Land Borders:

Currently, there are no seaports available for entry for Myanmar eVisa holders. Also, the Myanmar visa for US passport does not support visiting restricted areas within the country.
Myanmar visa on arrival for US citizen
At the moment, there are only a few countries whose passports are eligible for a Myanmar visa on arrival. US citizens cannot obtain a visa on arrival.

However, the Myanmar visa on arrival for US citizens is available to business tourists only.
