Myanmar eVisa for Indonesians
Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) introduced an eVisa system in 2014 to facilitate travelers of more than 100 nationalities who meet the visa requirements to visit their country. Indonesian citizens are eligible for obtaining an eVisa for Myanmar if they wish to travel for business or tourism. This means the total of nearly 15,000 Indonesian nationals who travel to Myanmar each year can be benefited from the online visa.
Myanmar has borders with several countries, however, travelers on eVisa are only allowed to access through a limited number of ports of entry. These include the international airports of Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw, and Mandalay, Thailand land border checkpoints (Kawthaung, Myawaddy, and Tachileik), and a couple of India land border checkpoints (Rihkhawdar and Tamu). Currently, visitors are not allowed to enter Myanmar through one of the seaports or cross Bangladesh, Laos or China land borders.
Myanmar Visa Requirements for Indonesians
In order to obtain an online Myanmar visa, Indonesian passport holders must have access to a reliable Internet connection and a device such as a mobile phone, tablet, laptop or PC. This application method allows them to apply 24/7, 365 days a year, from anywhere in the world.
Requirements for an eVisa application include having a valid Indonesian passport. The passport must have at least one blank page left for the stamps issued upon entry to Myanmar. Additionally, the passport must be valid for at least 6 months after entering the country. If this is not the case, a new passport has to be obtained before applying for a visa.
Travelers from Indonesia to Myanmar also need a valid payment card, either debit or credit, to pay for the visa processing fee online. This fee depends on the visa type and is slightly different for tourist and business visas, which allow for different durations of stay in Myanmar.
The maximum length of stay allowed with a tourist visa is 28 days, and with a business visa up to 70 days. Myanmar issues only single-entry visas at this time. For longer stays, travelers need to start a new visa application process once their visa has expired.
Lastly, it is necessary to have a functioning email address. All visa-related correspondence including confirmations, visa status updates, and visa approval, is done electronically.
Apply for Myanmar Visa From Indonesia
Travelers applying for an eVisa to Myanmar from Indonesia need to do so through the online application form, which can be found on the Myanmar Online Visa website. Applicants are asked to provide the following personal and passport information:
- Full first and last names (as they appear on the passport)
- Country and date of birth
- Nationality (as it is on the passport)
- Contact information (address, email, phone number)
- Passport country
- Passport number
- Passport issue date
- Passport expiry date
Candidates also need to reply to several health and security questions and indicate their expected dates of arrival and departure, as wells as the port of entry in Myanmar.
Once the information in the application form is reviewed and confirmed, the applicant can proceed with the visa fee payment. Multiple methods of payment are accepted, including the following debit and credit cards: Visa, Mastercard, Amex, JCB, Maestro, Discover, Diners Club, Alipay, and UnionPay. The payment is done through a secure online platform.
Note that children under the age of 7 who travel on their parents’ passports are not required to submit a separate application form. However, their personal information must be included in the parent’s passport and indicated in the minors section of the application form.
The eVisa processing time is very short, and the response is in most cases received within 72 hours. The visa is valid for 90 days starting on the date of issue. It is necessary to print out the eVisa and have it at all times while traveling in Myanmar.
Visa on Arrival for Indonesian Passport Holders
Nationals of only 8 countries are currently eligible for obtaining a visa on arrival to Myanmar instead of an online visa. Indonesians are not among those nationals, and they are required to obtain an eVisa prior to their travel. They must present the visa at the Myanmar port of entry, along with their passport.
Please be aware that a Myanmar eVisa is not the same as a Myanmar visa on arrival. Therefore, it is advisable to follow the necessary steps to obtain a Burma eVisa beforehand if you are an Indonesian citizen.
If for any reason candidates are not able to apply for a visa online or their application is rejected, they can visit the Myanmar Embassy to obtain their visa. It is important to keep in mind that the approval of the Myanmar eVisa and the permission to enter the country are granted at the discretion of the Myanmar government and immigration officials.
