Myanmar has become a popular tourist destination due to its white sandy beaches and ancient history. Getting a visa to visit is an easy process for Swiss citizens since the introduction of an electronic visa system for Burma introduced in 2014.
Swiss citizens can apply for a Myanmar visa from anywhere with access to the internet. The entire process takes less than half an hour to complete. Once completed, a visa response is generated within 3 business days.
The Myanmar visa for Swiss citizens is available for people traveling for tourism or business purposes. The electronic visa, once granted, allows for a single entry into Myanmar within a 90 day period from the date of issue. The different visas allow for different lengths of stay, with tourist visas only allowing for a maximum 28-day stay and business travelers up to 70 days.

- Full name as it appears on passport
- Date of birth
- Biographical passport information including expiry and issuance date
- Hotel booking information
Applicants are required to state the port of entry and planned travel dates when they will be in Myanmar. Visitors are only allowed to stay in certain registered hotels, inns, resorts, and guest houses.
Children under the age of 7 years can be endorsed on their parent’s passport and eVisa. They do not need their own visa to travel to Myanmar as long as their parent completes the questions associated with the minor’s section of the online application form.
After completing the Myanmar visa application form for tourists or business travelers, applicants must submit their required documentation and associated fees with their application. Make sure to double-check all entered information to minimize delays or rejection of the application.
Applicants will receive an email confirming that the application is being processed within about an hour of completing the online application. The approved visa will be sent to the provided email address within 3 business days.
Travelers are reminded to keep a copy of the visa with them during their entire stay in Myanmar. They must also print out a copy of the approved Burma eVisa for Swiss travelers and bring it with them to the port of entry for passport control. Keep in mind that travelers with an eVisa cannot travel in the restricted area of Myanmar.
Swiss citizens with an electronic visa are only able to enter Myanmar from one of 8 ports of entry. They cannot enter from a seaport. The allowed ports of entry include 3 Myanmar airports, 3 Myanmar land borders with Thailand, and 2 Myanmar land borders with India. Several of the included locations are the Nay Pyi Taw International Airport, the Myawaddy Land Border Checkpoint, and the Tamu Land Border Checkpoint.
